Reflections on Summit 2013

Lunch break at an amazing restaurant
Each year, GlobeMed members from different chapters around the country come together to engage in a long weekend discussion about global health at Northwestern University. This year the theme of the summit was "The Student Momentum," which investigated the power of youth to bring about global changes. This weekend we had seven members representing Amherst this year: Jaya Tripathi, CJ Bernstein, Philip Hendrix, Emily Bai, Imani Marshall, Courage Matiza, and Annelies O'Dea.

The keynote speakers were one of the highlights of the weekend,
  • Morton Schapiro, President, Northwestern University
  • Zeenat Rahman, Special Adviser, Global Youth Issues, U.S. Department of State
  • Leymah Gbowee, 2011 Nobel Laureate, Liberian Peace Activist
a rainy arrival
Despite delayed flights and cold rain, the summit was an empowering and unforgettable experience. A few of the summit group members will be posting their reflections on their summit experience. Hopefully their passion and excitement can be brought back to campus to motivate the rest of the the chapter to continue their work.
